Can we all come to the party?

Nearly 27% of New Zealand voters may have difficulty deciding how to vote in the parliamentary elections if they rely on political party web sites alone for information.

Our report checking out the accessibility of political party web sites has found that none of the parties’ web sites appear to have been designed and built with the intention of creating a fully accessible web site. All of the web sites had some elements that would present difficulty to disabled voters.

Growing accessibility market, web standards and more arts access

Twenty four percent of New Zealanders live with disability according to Statistics New Zealand. Their recent release of disability data shows that disabled people are now a force to be reckoned with in the movement towards accessible information and communication.

Robyn has been invited to join the Government Web Standards Working Group. She is looking forward to contributing to the important work of the group to make Government web sites truly accessible.

The movement towards accessible arts is increasing. Wellington now has a great team of audio describers. Along with Nicola Owen, an experienced audio describer from Auckland, Robyn trained the team.

Robyn has also described her accessibility work on the Tirohia Mai exhibition at the National Library in a comprehensive case study at Arts Access Aotearoa.

Accessible arts and more

We have been busy over the last little while applying our expertise in the area of accessible arts.

Robyn helped Circa Theatre with their audio description of their hit pantomime Mother Goose providing feedback. Some interesting developments in audio description are coming down the track - watch this space!

However, we haven't forgotten the web and have been providing website assessments against the New Zealand government web standards. Our old favourites are still an issue - predominantly insufficient contrast between text and background colours.

We are starting to get bookings for training this year, check out our training workshops.
